THE LAKE
Milton Reservoir, located near Hudson, Colorado, was constructed around 1909 by the Farmers Reservoir and Irrigation Company (FRICO) as part of an extensive system designed to store and deliver water for agricultural irrigation across the South Platte River Basin. For more than a century, it has played a vital role in sustaining local farming while also contributing to municipal water supply. Today, forward-looking initiatives are focused on strengthening the reservoir’s long-term reliability, including ongoing dredging operations that remove accumulated sediment from the basin. This work is an important investment in the reservoir’s future, restoring valuable storage capacity, improving operational efficiency, and helping ensure that Milton Reservoir can continue to meet growing water demands in an increasingly water-conscious region.
